Can God be Trusted?

There are many different seasons in our lives. Of course, we rejoice when everything is well and there are no major concerns affecting our daily lives. Yet just as certain as the rising and setting of the sun is this: as believers, we will also face times when we question God and His good will.

In the Gospel of John, chapter 16, verses 25–33, Jesus speaks about the fact that He has overcome the world. Therefore, the disciples do not need to be afraid; they can take heart and be at peace. This applies to you and me as well. Why is it sometimes so overwhelmingly difficult to trust in that?

The Lord has never promised us an easy life. The fact that the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts does not take us out of the world; we still live in the midst of it. We may face financial difficulties, major problems and concerns in relationships, illness, unemployment, and all kinds of distress. How, in these furnaces, can one continue to place his/her trust in the Father, in God? How can one know that God can be trusted always, in every situation?

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

  1. God is trustworthy because He loves you

As I write this, we are living in the Saturday after Good Friday. As we know, Good Friday is observed in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Who could be more trustworthy than the One who has given His own Son to die for you and for me? Could there be any greater demonstration of love? No. You carry the DNA of God the Father within you. The Bible also says that He yearns jealously for the spirit He has made to dwell in us. He will not leave you alone or as an orphan.

No matter how great our worry or misfortune may appear, God is greater! You can also trust that He desires to heal you, to fill you with joy, to provide for you, and to bless you with every blessing. This is His will toward all, but especially toward those who have received the salvation offered by His Son.

  1. God is trustworthy because His plan is perfect

You can trust God because He has seen you even before the creation of the world. He has wanted you to be in this world; He has created you for Himself, and has prepared a perfect path for you—one that ultimately leads to Him in heaven.

God has had a plan for every single person. He has dreams for you as well. He desires a personal, reciprocal relationship with you. Stepping into God’s plan and remaining in it requires that you lay down all your own plans and ask what He wants. I assure you that when you begin to thank the Father for allowing you to be part of His plan, instead of always asking Him to bless your own plans, He will open the doors in your calling!

  1. God is trustworthy because He does not change His mind about you

The Bible says—and repeatedly testifies—that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). This means that God's character does not fluctuate with circumstances. He is not gracious today and indifferent tomorrow. He does not love you more when you succeed, nor less when you fail. His faithfulness is not based on your changing condition, but on His own unchanging nature.

In human relationships, we learn to guard ourselves against disappointment, because we know that people can change, withdraw, or break their promises. Because of this, we may almost automatically assume that God operates in the same way. But the Bible paints a completely different picture: God is not a man that He should change His mind or go back on His word. What He has spoken, He has spoken—and He will fulfill it.

  1. God is trustworthy because He sees the whole picture

God does not look only at the single moment you are in, but at the whole journey—from beginning to end. Where you see one situation, one decision, or one point of pain, God sees how it all connects and what He is building through it.

Life can feel fragmented, as if it were made up of separate pieces that do not seem to fit together, and you do not quite know how to connect them so that things would make sense. Answers are delayed, and direction remains unclear. In those moments, it is easy to think that something has gone wrong or that God is not present. But in reality, it is often a matter of this: you see only a part—God sees the whole canvas.

The Bible describes this in many ways: God is the beginning and the end; He knows your days before even one of them has come to be. He does not react to situations afterward, but acts according to a plan that existed long before you even knew how to ask anything. And as I already mentioned earlier, the Father has had that plan for your life even before you were able to form words on your lips.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28)

Above are the first four points that show God’s trustworthiness. There are certainly more, but these serve as a starting point, so that you have at least some answers right away when you come across this post.

God is your Father; He has formed you, He has determined your dwelling place and the number of your days, all the natural gifts that are in you, and the beautiful person that you are. He loves you more than anyone, and yet in the same way He loves all His children. Believe and trust that His will toward you is only and entirely good. It flows from His perfect love, from which nothing can separate you.
